Florence Nightingale was born in Florence, Italy, on May 12, 1820. She was trained as a nurse at Kaiserwerth (1851) and Paris and in 1853 became superintendent of a hospital for in-valid women in London. In response to God’s call and animated by a spirit of service, in 1854 she volunteered for duty during the Crimean War and recruited 38 nurses to join her.
On Saturday, July 30, The ECW (Episcopal Church Women) and St. Cecelia’s Guild held their annual yard sale in the fellowship hall of All Saint’s. In our daily life at All Saints’, it’s easy enough to forget that we’re part of a much larger body of Christians. We are located in the Diocese of Olympia, from which comes our Bishop. Our diocese is part of the Episcopal Church in the United States which is then part of the worldwide Anglican Communion, based in England.
Last Thursday Jeffrey and I delivered sandwiches and soup to the veterans’ encampment at 82nd and Pacific Avenue. Trey made a lot of sandwiches of different configurations. Kresha made vegetable beef soup with barley. About ten people were living in the camp, so we had more than enough to serve all of them.
