Thanks to everyone who has contributed to our once-per month Food Bank Sunday, the second of each month and July 13th this month. We have been contributing three to six bags of groceries each month, which is very welcome at St. Leo’s Food Connection in downtown Tacoma.
This ministry is very important in the community. As noted in a recent News Tribune article, the number of people coming to food banks in our area has continued to increase, and recent actions by the federal government have reduced the food available for distribution. The Thurston County Food Bank has had to reduce the amount of food they give recipients by about ten pounds per week.
Now that we are in the summer break from school, please consider self-serving items to contribute in July and August. Often the food banks provide food that children can access themselves—peanut butter, cereal, fruit cups, etc.
